FMGreen was officially born via a JCrew add in Mademoiselle Magazine. By this time, pinkerton had taken its place in the minds and hearts of all the members of the band.

On February 7, 1997 they headed into a local studio that was used to train high school students in sound engineering. After spending 6 hours in the studio the band returned to school with their first ever recording. It was rough to say the least, and in the final mastering process a major blunder was made so that all the tracks on the final CD ended up sounding like a 45rpm record being played at 33rpm. Songs being played by this time included Ruckerball, Forest Hills Girl, Dear Jenny,, and Destiny's Toy.

Slowly, Jon began coming to fewer and fewer practices. He still had a year left in high school whereas Scott and Steve were graduating. Scott and Steve also underwent a period of personal and creative differences at that time.
